When a large volume of artifacts is present and obstructs the view of the bone and teeth, the Erase Bone Artifacts action allows the user to remove these artifacts.
To erase artifacts:
1. Start the Erase Bone Artifacts action.
2. Locate the artifacts by scrolling through the CT data. When it is difficult to find the correct CT slice in 2D, use the Focus action on the patient model and the reslices will move to the correct position. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut [F].
3. Do one of the following:
— Click Magic eraser in the Erase group in the Erase artifacts toolbar. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut [E].
— Click Eraser in the Erase group in the Erase Artifacts toolbar.
4. Once you have selected the tool you wish to use, click on the slices or click and hold the left mouse button, and drag over the view of the CT data you are working in. A dark red transparent color is applied in a sphere around the selected position of the erasure tool icon (More info on how this works). The part that is colored in red, will be left out of the visualization of the patient model. The impact of the action can be seen in the 3D viewer.
Tip
The brush settings might not be suitable in specific cases. These settings may be changed. More information can be found in the Tool settings section.
Note
The Erase Bone Artifacts action will not alter the original (CB)CT data. If artifacts were removed, and the patient model is subsequently edited using the Edit Patient action on the Patient tab, the artifacts will be part of the model again. Therefore, editing the bone prior to erasing possible noise artifacts is recommended.
