Automatically Setting up Patient Data

This functionality may not be regulatory cleared, released or licensed for sale in all markets.

MagicAssist, the AI detection algorithm, sets up patient data automatically by detecting points of interest, using artificial intelligence. It always remains possible to manually adjust the patient setup.

3D X-rays

The (CB)CT data is automatically set up by detecting:

tooth positions

OPG/PAN curves

field of view

patient orientation

TMJ area reslice curves

mandibular nerves

bone threshold

brightness and contrast

By default, MagicAssist is started automatically when capturing or importing a (CB)CT scan.

If disabled in the settings, start MagicAssist by clicking  Auto setup on the 3D X-ray menu tab.

Note

When MagicAssist is disabled or skipped during the MagicAssist wizard, a full FOV (Field of View), OPG/PAN curves and tooth positions are set by default.

Auto Patient Orientation

The auto orientation can always be manually adjusted if needed, using the edit patient orientation wizard.

MagicAssist can return two orientation types:

Dental head position (DHP) (default): Makes use of the detected tooth centers to calculate the occlusal plane, which is used as the horizontal.

Natural head position (NHP): Makes use of the detected anatomical landmarks.

Note

Switch between head positions by selecting them via the additional viewer settings.

Manually Adjusting the Patient Setup

In the following scenarios, manual steps could still be required:

If the head position in a scan is too tilted.

In case of a partial arch scan, the reslice curve cannot be detected.

The Natural Head Position (NHP) will not be detected if the required landmarks are outside the (CB)CT’s Field of View.

Auto Reslice Curves

Automatically set reslice curves go through the detected tooth centers and include the area of the detected TMJ.

In case of a partial arch scan, the reslice curve cannot be detected.

Default curves will get the same number of control/anchor points for consistency purposes.

Intraoral X-rays

By default, MagicAssist AI detection is started automatically when capturing or importing intraoral X-rays.

If disabled in the settings, start the IO scan setup by clicking  IO scan setup on the IO scan menu tab.

The IOS data is automatically set up:

Auto-orientation: U-shaped or n-shaped orientation of the jaw model.

Auto tooth centers: Detection of each tooth position and the tooth status (present or absent).
