Importing a scan

To import a scan:

On the Scan or import your model card in the treatment line:

Click Start (if the KaVo LS 3 or no scanner is set to be used in the DTX Studio™ Lab settings. Alternatively, if the KaVo LS 3 scan module is already open, click import icon Import. Continue with step 3.

Click Import (if the NobelProcera 2G scanner is set to be used).

Note

If the case is created from a request, this action is not available.

Add files:

Drag and drop the .stl or .ply files on the drop zone (the square with dashed border). Alternatively, click Browse, go to the files and click Open. Then click Next.

To reuse an existing patient's previous scans or designs, click Reuse patient data. Select a scan or design. Click Add.

Notes

Reused designs are merged with the jaw when to ensure correct alignment. Colors are not included.

If the scan has too little vertices (less than 1000), if too small/large volumes are loaded (less than 5 mm3 or more than 5x106 mm3), or if files of an invalid file type are dropped in the drop zone, an error message will occur.

For KaVo X Pro intraoral scans .nxa files are also supported.

If the scanner generates non-pre-aligned data, you are limited to link locators/dies and the jaw to one tile, because of the accuracy of the chosen scanner. If the scanner delivers pre-aligned data, you are free to link the locators and/or dies to the same tile as the jaw, or to link it to another tile.

On the tooth chart, select the tooth range that was scanned, the type of scan item and scanner.

On the implant position, select Locator and select the locator brand and type. Click Next.

Select the scanner that was used to create the scan. Click Finish.

Notes

The last chosen device will be selected by default.

A warning is shown if the scan data, created by this type of scanner device, is not accurate enough for the selected restoration type.

To indicate an occlusion scan, select the This is an occlusion scan check box.

At the bottom of the window, a tile will show a preview of the scan. A green icon indicates the scan object has been defined. Hover over the tile and click x to remove the scan from the case.

When importing DTX Studio™ Clinic scans (either as .nxa file or as attachment to a request), diagnostics on the antagonist are merged with the jaw. Diagnostics on the restoration jaw are shown as separate tiles at the bottom of the window.

If you want to add more scans:

Drag and drop files on the drop zone, or click the add scan button add scan icon, browse to the files, click Open and repeat step 3. Otherwise, click Finish.

If you reused existing patient data (See step 2), click Show patient data and select another scan or design.

The scans are shown in the 3D scene of the scan module, where you can check the scanned models. The imported scans that were not defined in the wizard are removed. To change the scan types or tooth range or to import more scans, click Edit setup.

Notes

If the scanner generates non-pre-aligned data, link the locators and/or dies to the same tile as the jaw. If the scanner delivers pre-aligned data, you are free to link the locators and/or dies to the same tile as the jaw, or to link it to another tile.

If you click Scan on the task panel for an item that was imported, the imported scan data will be removed. Scan data can be re-imported.

Click Save and Close to close the scan module.
