Mandibular Nerves

Indicate the exact location of the inferior alveolar nerve located in the mandibular canal for diagnostic purposes and surgery planning.

On the Diagnose tab, click Mandibular Nerves .

If no mandibular nerves are present yet, the automatic nerve detection will start promptly.

Check the mandibular nerves by interacting with the models. If changes are needed, rerun the algorithm by clicking Automatic nerve detection. If that doesn't work, manually indicate the mandibular nerves by following the steps below.

To manually indicate the mandibular nerves. Click Indicate left mandibular nerve or Indicate right mandibular nerve to select the mandible side on which you want to indicate the mandibular nerve.

Click the mental foramen on the buccal side of the mandible to indicate where the nerve annotation should start.

Click the mandibular foramen on the lingual side of the mandible to indicate where the nerve annotation should end.

Click the nerve reslice to add construction points for the nerve. With the Offset slider, adjust the position of the reslice to a more buccal or lingual position in order to get a better view on the nerve canal. Alternatively, use the mouse scroll wheel to change the offset.

When finished, click Finish.

Check whether the mandibular nerve is correctly annotated. If not, click Back and restart the nerve indication by clicking on Reindicate mandibular nerve.

If it is correctly annotated, click Finish.

The mandibular nerve is added to the smart panel.

Repeat the procedure from step 3 to annotate the mandibular nerve on the other mandible side.
